History of A!CM

Adventure! realized.

2015

Our adventure starts as traveling exhibits and activities designed to spark imagination. We traveled throughout Lane County to fairs, festivals, and celebrations as a group of new parents looking to fill the gap in offering child-friendly opportunities.

Adventure! solidified.

2017

From the trunks of our cars to a concrete space, Adventure! found a unique home inside Valley River Center. We opened with 2,500 square feet of exhibit space and an all-volunteer crew who believed in our mission. Initial exhibits include the Dino Dig, Art Lab, and a dress-up area.

Adventure! expanded.

2018

We worked tirelessly behind a concrete wall to bring an additional 17 exhibits to visitors. This increased our capacity and introduced an additional 8,000 square feet to the exhibit hall. New exhibits included our Sunken Pirate Ship play structure, expanded Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, and Little Visits: Japan.

Adventure! at home.

2020

The museum closely followed procedures and closures throughout the state of Oregon to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Our limited staff created craft boxes and instructional videos to deliver to families’ doorsteps while the museum remained closed for a year, keeping the spirit of Adventure! alive.

Adventure! resumed.

2021

After a year of closure, Adventure! was able to reopen our doors under limited capacity and a reservation-only model. We continued offering services virtually, including our annual Family Halloween Party and Pumpkin Auction, as well as a community-wide scavenger hunt. We increased our capacity and returned to walk-in admissions as state guidelines continued to evolve, grateful to once again welcome families to play.

Adventure! amplified.

2023

We added an additional 4,000 square feet to our exhibit hall, bringing more intentionally designed exhibits to life and eliminating the need for a waitlist on our busiest days. Over several months, we renovated a space that had remained vacant for 10+ years, transforming it into our Why-Brary, Magic & Mystery, expanded Lego Bar and race track, Big Builds, and more.

Adventure! now.

2026

Today, we welcome over 90,000 visitors annually to explore over 40 interactive, educational, culturally responsive exhibits. Our proudest achievements are the relationships we’ve built and fostered with families, businesses, and organizations to contribute to the holistic development of children. Our next Adventure! awaits!
