Little Visits: Japan

One of our most popular exhibits introduced in the 2018 expansion, Little Visits: Japan showcases Japanese cuisine, culture, lifestyle, flora and fauna, and arts. Visitors can:

  • run their own Yatai stand, with sushi, Taiyaki, ramen, and more;

  • listen to Japanese music, featuring songs by students from Yujin Gakuen Japanese Immersion School;

  • learn how to play Hanetsuki, a game similar to badminton;

  • create origami and learn about senbazuru (One Thousand Paper Cranes);

  • take a ride on the Shinkansen bullet train simulation; and

  • explore Japanese books, animals, plant life, trinkets, clothing, and games.

How does Little Visits: Japan support play-based education?

As public institutions, children’s museums are designed to welcome all learners. Museums [...] effectively support children’s positive identity development as it relates to demographic factors, as well as broader categories such as gaining confidence to see one’s self as a scientist, artist, engineer, or maker.
